Financial Options

Affordable Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is an excellent investment in the overall dental, medical and psychological well being of children and adults and financial considerations should not be an obstacle to obtaining this important health service. Being sensitive to the fact that different people have different needs in fulfilling their financial obligations, we provide several payment options.

We are always happy to discuss financial arrangements with you if any of the plans below don’t fit within your budget. Please speak with our Office Manager regarding any financial arrangements or questions. We are committed to making orthodontic treatment affordable for you.

If your insurance covers orthodontic treatment, you will receive the benefit of reduced personal costs. Most insurance policies have a lifetime orthodontic benefit that is different from regular dental insurance. Insurance policies vary and we will review your insurance to determine what benefits are available to you.

As a service to you, we are happy to verify orthodontic insurance benefits and submit pretreatment estimates and claims on your behalf. We ask that you assign benefits to our office. If your insurance provider changes, please inform our office of the change in insurance information. You are responsible for the full treatment fee should your insurance benefits lapse or change.

How does orthodontic insurance work?

Dental insurance policies usually cover 80% to 100% of most dental procedures, but orthodontic coverage is different. Orthodontic policies cover anywhere from 15-50% of the total treatment cost, up to a specified lifetime maximum, which varies from company to company. This benefit is paid out over the course of the treatment until the maximum has been reached. Insurance carriers offer many different types of agreements to their subscribers, and each contract provides a different benefit.

Our office will assist with your insurance

We will generate insurance claim forms that will describe the orthodontic problem, the length of treatment and the financial arrangements. We will then submit these forms to your insurance carrier for payments to be made for treatment.

What you can do to maximize your benefits

Know your benefits before treatment begins! We can help you understand your orthodontic benefits such as your total benefit amount, how much you can expect to pay, and when to expect payment.

About Flexible Spending Accounts or Medical Spending Accounts

Flex plans are designed to allow families to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for out-of-pocket medical and dental expenses. Flexible spending accounts can be very beneficial and should be used whenever possible, they are however, strictly regulated. The facts are:

  • These programs are regulated by the government and there are general guidelines that must be followed.
  • Payments made on account must be for services being rendered and should not be a pre-payment for future charges.
  • Funds are to be used for "out of pocket" expenses. If you have insurance coverage for treatment you must allow for the portion of the fee your insurance will cover.
  • Documentation to receive reimbursement from your benefits administrator may be in the form of a receipt for a payment or may require a statement of charges. Please check with your administrator.

Do I need to set aside funds for orthodontic treatment?

Appointments scheduled for pre-treatment observation are excellent opportunities to plan ahead for the coming year. If you are eligible for a Flexible Spending account, please make sure that you make any appointments well in advance of the enrollment deadline. We will do our best to help you estimate anticipated expenses for the coming year.

Prepayment Discount

If payment in full is made prior to starting treatment, we offer a prepayment discount. If the patient does not have orthodontic insurance, we offer a 3% discount if paying by check or a 2% discount if paying by credit card. If the patient has orthodontic insurance, we offer a 3% discount for payment by check of the family’s portion of the fee or a 2% discount for payment by credit card of the family’s portion of the fee. Please inform us at the records appointment if you plan to take advantage of the prepayment discount.

Payment In Full Required For Appliances:

Payment in full is due at the “fit” appointment for habit breakers, space maintainers, replacement retainers, and retainer repairs. Payment in full is also due for diagnostic records and x-rays, even if the patient is covered by dental insurance.

Extended Payment Plan:

As a convenience to you, we offer a payment plan with no interest charged. Neither the fee nor the payments are based on the number of appointments or length of treatment but represent a convenient method of budgeting the cost of orthodontic treatment over a period of time.

Credit Card Payment:

For your convenience, we offer you the option of charging your orthodontic payments on your MasterCard or VISA credit card. Please present the card at your appointment.
